When Kyugoro Sakata, and engineer in Hiroshima, Japan, was first shown a fountain pen in 1911 by a visiting British soldier, he was so impressed with function and design of the pen, that he decided to produce such a product for the market in Japan. And that is how The Sailor Pen Company was born.
